  1. Best review by far. I actually ordered one unseen in October so first time I see one is when I collect in March. You confirmed the things that matter to me are good. I might modify ie raise that wardrobe if it does get in the way, the only thing I don’t really like.

    1. @MotorhomeCampervan Yah I guess it was. Wanted a van early 2022 and had seen the D55 which wasnt for me due the fridge type and the bathroom/kitchen space split.

  2. Great upload Peter,is there, and advise on van, type motor home,to buy for under £30.000,now getting divorced, and no home, and don’t want to pay £1000 per month rent,so looking to live in a van.Any help from you, or your subscribers would be most grateful for a Newby like me. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk.

    1. Tread v carefully. £30k is not a lot for a motorhome these days and you must be aware of potential for water ingress issues on older ‘vans. Also, where would you stay – you can only usually stay on the same site for 28 days max before moving on. Good luck!

  3. Excellent layout and especially with the access inside under the bed. I like the 3rd bed layout and also the discrete look of that particular colour with the graphics 👌

    1. @MotorhomeCampervan The “Combi 4” uses propane and only propane. It can also be had in a 6 kW version. A Truma Combi that runs on diesel can only be had in a 6 kW version. “Truma Combi D 4” does not exist.

Or Truma just made one the other day that I am not aware of lol. Could also be the case, but I do think that your reference page is simply wrong.

    2. You could check with Truma of course =) I did several times and the answer was always the same. The unit does not exist.

    3. To be technically correct, out of experience I do believe the Combi D 6 can run in a lower output mode. It’s not like it has to run at 6 kW all the time. So I guess it’s possible that Dreamer took a 6 kW unit and “programmed it down” to always run in a low output? Which would be disastrous for the life expectancy of the unit lol.

  4. In the US this van would easily go for $125,000. At the recent Florida RV Supershow, Thor campervans built on the 3500 Promaster (same as 6.36 Ducato) – with subpar quality/insulation – were selling for a showprice of $100,000.

    1. That’s £93,000 at today’s exchange rate. Wow, I thought prices here were getting steep!

    2. @MotorhomeCampervanand that was the special showprice – MSRPs start at $120,000 and that’s without lithium! It’s insane. Yet people are so desperate to get away they are still buying.

  5. So is this classed as a motor home or a van with windows with the DVLA? The reason I ask is that our conversion looks identical but was refused motor home status because “it is how it appears to the police” took it all the way to the ICA who upheld our appeal but has no pwer to change the DVLA decision. Appreciate your view

    1. This will be registered as a Motor Caravan by DVLA as it has European Whole Vehicle Type Approval and will be recorded from day one under this category

    2. Hi Sue & Paul
DVLA rule “2 or more windows on at least one side of the main body (this does not include windows on the driver or passenger doors) to provide a reasonable amount of daylight into the living accommodation ”
Do you have windows like this? I’m sorry to ask but I’m just building my campervan and I will also want to change the status of the van .
      Thanks for answer 😏

    3. @Agnieszka truba Yes ours did, both sides, the reason for refusal is all down to “type approval” which is what your vehicle will be judged on. The production companies will be able to get “motorhome” status but self builds will often be reclassified as “van with windows”. There are few exceptions to this. If you want more information there is a very good website called “What do They Know” if you search DVLA and Motor Home you will witness first hand the problems that people have had. Saying this, we have not suffered because we did not get “motorhome” status, apart from the annoyance of the principle involved and the lack of transparency by the DVLA

  6. Another excellent review Peter, thank you. I was considering the Dreamer D55 Select but now having seen your review I am liking the extra kitchen and worktop space in the D51, more head scratching:) With your experience of driving how does the 9 speed auto compare with a Comfort-Matic, I ask because I was considering a nearly new camper van with the comfort – matic gear box. Cheers

    1. My money would go on the D51 over the D55, simply because it feels more spacious with the open view along the offside but you probably need to see both – if that’s possible with so little stock around. As for the nine-speed auto compared with the Comfort-Matic that’s a bit like comparing a new Ferrari with a Ford Model T. Don’t buy a Comfort-Matic without a good test drive and being sure you can live with it!

  7. Great looking van and spec.
I actually think that’s a very good price.
I’ve seen VW T6 costing as much.
I’ve got a T5 and love it even if it does have its limitations.
I can use day to day and I know a lot of other people do as well.
    I wouldn’t fancy commuting in a 6 metre van if I’m honest.
    Cheers 👍👍

    1. Totally agree. This is a great size – full facilities on board but still easy to park in towns

  8. Just about the most thorough video review I’ve ever seen! The D51 looks really good. I’d prefer two singles, but I might just be tempted with the wide double. A shame there are no rear side windows. The anonymity aspect appeals to me – I’d never buy a white van!
    Chapeau to Peter Vaughan.

  9. That storage area under the bed looks ideal for keeping dirty clothes till you get to a launderette, This is something which is usually difficult to decide where you can put laundry and usually ends up in the shower room so you have to turf it out when you want a shower.
